Tutto è iniziato sul pianeta Alpha nella nebulosa di Andromeda, dove AI era riuscito a reprimere e dominare la razza umana. Quando l'umanità fu minacciata da catastrofi di natura ecologica ed economica, si rivolse all'aiuto delle macchine. Questo fu un errore monumentale. Alla fine, tutto quello che poterono fare fu scappare. Questa è la storia raccontata nel nuovo album "The Source" della band metal opera Ayreon. L'album è un quasi-prequel dell'episodio sci-fi del 2008 "01011001". L'album è suddiviso in quattro capitoli: 1. The Frame (La cornice), 2. The Aligning Of The Ten (L'allineamento dei dieci), 3. The Transmigration (La trasmutazione) e 4. The Rebirth (La rinascita)!
Il maestro Arjen Lucassen è riuscito a trovare un buon numero di nomi importanti per l'album, tra i quali i cantanti James LaBrie (Dream Theater), Tommy Giles Rogers (Between The Buried And Me), Simone Simons (Epica), Mike Mills (Toehider), Floor Jansen (Nightwish), Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian), Michael Eriksen (Circus Maximus), Tobias Sammet (Edguy, Avantasia), Nils K. Rue (Pagan's Mind), Zaher Zorgati (Myrath), Tommy Karevik (Kamelot) e Russell Allen (Symphony X), oltre ai chitarristi Paul Gilbert (Mr. Big), Guthrie Govan (The Aristocrats, Asia, Steven Wilson) e Marcel Coenen, nonché il tastierista Mark Kelly (entrambi dei Marillion).
