After their highly acclaimed debut “Psychotic Symphony” (2017) and the live album “Live with the Plovdiv Psychotic Symphony” (2019), Sons Of Apollo will be back in January 2020! "MMXX" is the name of the new record on which Mike Portnoy (drums), Derek Sherinian (keyboard), Jeff Scott Soto (vocals), Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal (guitar) and Billy Sheehan (bass) take everything to the next level.
'Stylistically, we're following on from the debut,' explains Portnoy. "But we have the feeling that the album is stronger, as we all know each other better. 'Psychotic Symphony' was the first time that the five of us had worked together, that's why it had an experimental atmosphere. Now we can draw not just on the experience of recording the album but also of our many tours together. And now there's a much clearer chemistry between us." "Each band member has their own sound on their instrument," Sherinian adds. "And when you put it all together you get a wonderful, five-headed beast. That's what creates the particular sound of this band, which you can hear very clearly on MMXX."
"You get to hear unusual meters and wonderfully crazy performances. Personally I get the feeling of having gone much deeper musically than ever before. For example, there are some amazing harmonies. Overall, we were more adventurous this time than before, and I'm sure people will love what we did. MMXX is an album that I'm proud of."
