The Brazilian death metal quartet CRYPTA will release Shades of Sorrow on August 4, 2023, the successor to their critically acclaimed debut album Echoes of the Soul from 2021 (#55 on the Official German Album Charts and #15 on the US Hard Music Albums and Top New Artist Albums Charts). Founded in 2019 by former NERVOSA members Luana Dametto (drums) and Fernanda Lira (vocals), the two guitarists Tainá Bergamaschi and Jessica di Falchi complete the fierce death metal force that remains true to their unique sound on Shades of Sorrow, solidifying their outstanding position in the scene with their second album. CRYPTA confidently combine classic and modern death metal with significant extreme and black metal elements, enhancing this mixture with bubbling energy and incomparable charisma.

Angry and uncompromising, Shades of Sorrow takes no prisoners from the beginning. The threatening piano intro 'The Aftermath' summons a dark atmosphere before 'Dark Clouds' kicks off with wild growls that immediately leave mouths agape. From the first second, the band's precise interplay is demonstrated through the force of their instruments. 'Poisonous Apathy' captivates with its electrifying guitar sound and distinctive, hard-hitting bass that inevitably makes its way into the listeners' nervous system. The merciless 'The Outsider' unleashes raw cruelty and attacks with intense drums before transitioning into a comparatively softer outro. Accordingly, one of the pieces that advances equally forcefully follows with 'Stronghold'. The outstanding death metal drumming in 'The Other Side of Anger' sets the stage for a vocal hurricane – unstoppable and uncontrollable. With the eerie and haunting piano play of 'The Limbo,' it serves as the intro to the undoubtedly impressive guitar work in 'Trial of Traitors'. After the eerie and penetrating 'Lullaby for the Forsaken,' 'Agents of Chaos' once again proves the high level of CRYPTA with its many facets. The immense death metal tracks 'Lift the Blindfold' and 'Lord of Ruins' unleash all the power that CRYPTA has to offer, before Shades of Sorrow concludes with the instrumental 'The Closure'.

CRYPTA has created another impressive death metal masterpiece with Shades of Sorrow, perfectly showcasing the technical abilities and songwriting skills of the four women across 13 songs. The album was recorded at Family Mob Studio, mixed by Daniel Bergstrand (33 Stockholm, Sweden), and mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studio.
